Our Story

LubunTO’s roots go back to 2019, when a few gay men immigrants from Turkey began meeting at Glad Day Café to share tea and friendship. Back then, the group was called “G+”—just a circle of friends trying to find home in a new city. After the pandemic, those small gatherings and WhatsApp chats slowly grew into a community. In late 2023, five organizers came together, chose the name LubunTO, and held the first meeting under this more inclusive name that December—attracting more than 30 community members. By mid-2024, we marched together at Toronto Pride under our own banner and officially became a non-profit in August, 2024*. Today, LubunTO connects queer and trans people from Turkey and nearby regions through events, cultural projects, and newcomer support; building belonging, one conversation at a time.

LubunTO’s mission is to advance the well-being and inclusion of LGBTQ+ immigrants from Turkey and beyond by providing community support, education, and advocacy tools that foster belonging, dignity, and equitable access to social, economic and health systems.

Together, we make Toronto feel like home.

*LubunTO is a registered nonprofit under ONCA and our moderators are our Board members as well. We choose moderator or organizer as a more inclusive and horizontal term. All of our organizers are also volunteers with lived experience in queer activism.

OUR QUEEN

ROSE YULE

Rose Yule (they/them) is a vintage burlesque drag artist and seasoned makeup artist with over a decade of experience in the art of transformation. Formerly one of the most well-known drag queens in Turkey, Roseyule is now based in Canada, where they rebuilt their brand from the ground up after immigrating two years ago. Their drag blends old-school glamour with geek culture, political commentary, and bold theatricality—whether gracing the stage, appearing in music videos, or streaming to global audiences on YouTube and Twitch. A sought-after performer and educator, Roseyule has also led seminars at Sephora on drag and beauty. Through every look and performance, they celebrate resilience, reinvention, and the liberating power of queer expression,
